TIPO (Taiwan Intellectual Property Office) Releases Trend of Patent Trademark Applications for Q3 2017

TIPO (Taiwan Intellectual Property Office) released the trend of application for patents and trademarks in the 3rd quarter of this year (2017). Patent and trademark applications show a positive growth. Among them, three types of patent applications for invention, utility and design patents were all up from the same period of previous year. On the other hand, the number of trademark registration also increased. Patent and trademark applications, are continuous growth in plural seasons.

According to the statistics, in the third quarter of 2017, the total number of three kinds of patents including inventions, utilities and designs, the quantity of application was 18,765, up 4% and growing for three consecutive quarters. The number of Taiwan natives (10,429, + 4%) and foreigners (8,336, + 3%) all grew.

The number of applications for trademark registrations totaled 22,168, and growth rates up 12%. The growth rates for 4 consecutive quarters continued to increase. The number of Taiwan native and foreigner applications was 16,230 and 5,938 respectively, with double-digit growth (12% and 11% %).

According to the indicator data of prosperity light signals issued by the National Development and Reform Commission, the prosperity light of August this year has changed from yellow-blue light to green light, indicating that the national economy has gradually returned to warmth and that there may be a positive incentive for applying for intellectual property rights.
