SIPO(Sino Intellectual Property Office) of China and Cambodia Sign Patent Agreement

Cambodia, located in Indochina Peninsula of South East Asia and capital city of Phnom Penh, is a member state of the United Nations and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).

According to the information released by SIPO(Sino Intellectual Property Office) on the Official Web on September 27, 2017, SIPO Director Shen Changyu had met with Pratsi and his party, the State Secretary and Minister of Industry and Crafts of the Kingdom of Cambodia, in Beijing. After the conference, the two sides signed 《Memorandum of Understanding on Intellectual Property Cooperation between the State Intellectual Property Office of China and the Kingdom of Cambodia in the Ministry of Industry and Handicrafts》. Memorandum states: Authorized and valid patent for inventions by SIPO can be directly registered in Cambodia to take effect and be protected.

The memorandum signed by the two parties includes: The invention patent, which is authorized and maintained by the State Intellectual Property Office of the PRC, can be validated and protected directly by the Cambodian registration; the relevant department of SIPO of China will provide the invention to the Ministry of Industry and Crafts of Cambodia Patent applications such as search and assessment services; the two sides will also be in the area of intellectual property exchange of experience and cooperation.

SIPO Director Shen Changyu said that the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding on IPR Cooperation between China and Cambodia is of great significance to both sides and will not only make it easier for national patent applicants to obtain rights in Cambodia but also have a positive impact on the cooperation in intellectual property and economic and social development between China and Cambodia. In particular, it has demonstrated its effect in countries and regions along the “One Belt and One Road”.
