FAQ
How long does a patent application take?
It depends on the country and the type of right. Invention patents usually take one to several years from filing to grant; utility models and designs are faster. We explain the expected timeline for each country when we quote. You can follow progress in the client portal.
How long does a trademark application take?
It depends on the country. In Taiwan, registration usually takes about six months to a year, longer if there is an office action or opposition. We outline typical timelines for each country when we quote.
How are fees calculated?
Quotes are based on the countries, type of case and technical complexity, and include official fees and our service fees. We send a quote first and start only after you approve it.
Can I instruct you for a single country?
Yes. For patents or trademarks, we can handle a single country such as Taiwan, China, Japan, the US or Europe, or help you plan filings in several.
How do I choose trademark classes?
Classes follow the goods and services you use, or plan to use, the mark for. They define the scope of protection and affect the cost, so we recommend classes based on your business.
Does a registered trademark last forever?
No. A Taiwan registration lasts ten years and can be renewed for further ten-year terms; rules vary by country. When it is time to renew, we can file the renewal for you.
How do I check on my case?
Once you instruct us, you can log in to the client portal to see case status, deadlines and correspondence. You are also welcome to contact your case handler directly.
Can you take over cases filed by another firm?
Yes. For both patents and trademarks, we handle the change of agent and take over prosecution and deadline management.
What should I prepare before filing?
For patents: technical descriptions, drawings or product information; the more complete, the better. For trademarks: the mark, applicant details and the designated goods or services. If you are unsure what to prepare, please contact us and we will assist you.
