Taiwan-Japan Patent Prosecution Highway (PPH MOTTAINAI) pilot program has been extended for 3 years since May 1, 2017


Taiwan and Japan have been always close to economic and trade relations, Japan is the country that the foreigners apply for the invention of the largest number, last year (2016) a total of 12,006 applications, and on the other hand, the quantity of Taiwan applying for invention patent cases in Japan are 1,306.

Wherein, with respect to the application amount through Taiwan-Japan PPH, Japan is also the highest. The statistics are as follows.


In order to accelerate the speed of patent examination between the two sides, so that the applicant can obtain a patent more quickly, Taiwan onwards to implement the PPH pilot program from May 1, 2012, and amended it as an enhanced PPH (PPH MOTTAINAI) from May 1, 2014.

Taiwan-Japan PPH MOTTAINAI pilot program became due on April 30 this year. The two sides agreed to onwards to extend the program period to 3 years from May 1, 2017, to continue providing Taiwan and Japanese applicants convenient PPH services.
