『One Belt One Road』Intellectual Property Promotion

In the fall of 2013, Chinese President Xi Jinping proposed a major initiative the “One Belt One Road” that refers to the “Silk Road Economic Belt” and the “21st Century Maritime Silk Road” during his visit to Central Asia and Southeast Asian countries. This initiative is highly responsive to the international community. Over the past four years, more than 100 countries and organizations around the world have participated in or supported the “One Belt One Road”. Of course, the construction of intellectual property is not absent.

The article of the State Intellectual Property Office Of The P.R.C(SIPO) pointed out that Chinese enterprises are mainly applied patents in a few “One Belt One Road” countries such as Russia, Singapore, and India, but there are fewer patent applications in most of the other “One Belt One Road” countries. Enterprises must have the more complete patent strategy if enterprises want to enter in the “One Belt One Road” market. For example: Ericsson sued XIAOMI in India for patent infringement and filed the forbidden order in 2014.

SIPO statistics on the patent activities of the “One Belt One Road” countries are summarized as Table 1.

Table 1. The statistical time range: 2016 whole year

Note:
1. “One Belt One Road” is widely known, there is no clear national statistics.
2. The SIPO statistical report is based on that there are 64 countries in addition to China that are provided by the academic community.
