With the efforts of the Vice Minister Wang Meihua of Taiwan’s Ministry of Economic Affairs, the PPH MOTTAINAI MOU signed on January 31, 2018 at the Canadian Trade Office in Taipei and was officially launched on February 1, 2018 This is a new cooperative territory expanded by the Taiwan’s TIPO (Taiwan Intellectual Property Office) after the cooperation of the PPH with the United States, Japan, Spain, South Korea and Poland.

Canada is a North American country, west to Pacific, east to Atlantic, south and northwest border with the United States. Canada’s territory covers 9.98 million square kilometers, making it the second largest country in the world. Canada is known as “the country of Maple Leafs,” and Ottawa is the capital of the country.

The PPH cooperation between Taiwan and Canada can speed up the examination of patent inventions by both parties so that the applicant can obtain the patent more quickly, which is beneficial to the patent layout of both industries. For example, if a Taiwanese applicant filed a patent application in Taiwan and then filed a patent application in Canada with the same invention, if the Patent Office of Canada first issued the examination result, then the applicant could submit a PPH application to TIPO accordingly. This cooperation can provide more efficient examination services for both parties.
