Benefit from 『One Belt One Road』 policy, China’s PCT patent applications in 2017 first half exceeded 20,000

On July 20, 2017, the State Intellectual Property Office (SIPO) in Beijing released the main work statistics of the first half of this year. Data show that the first half of 2017, SIPO accepted the “Patent Cooperation Treaty” (PCT) international patent applications exceeded 20,000, reaching 21,600, an increase of 16% comparing to the prior year, wherein Guangdong, Beijing, Jiangsu, Shanghai, Shandong, Zhejiang 6 provinces and cities of the PCT patent applications accounted for nearly 90% of the total domestic patent application. Among them, Guangdong is the top by the quantity of 11900 applications.

In the first half of 2017, China’s patent application with respect to the『One Belt One Road』 countries (excluding China) was 2174, an increase of 17.8% over the same period of last year. On the other hand, the patent application of the countries of 『One Belt One Road』apply for China is 2038 patents, an increase of 23.2% comparing to the prior year.

The first half of 2017 statistics mainly presents three characteristics: First, China’s domestic invention patent ownership remains steady growth. China’s domestic (excluding Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan) per 10000 population invented the patent ownership reached 8.9, compared with the “12th Five Project” at the end of the year it improves 2.6, approaching the target of the national “13th Five Project” outline per 10,000 populations invented 12 patents, the indicator moves steadily. Second, the national key regional patent layout is in good shape. In the first half of 2017, the invention patents in Beijing, Tianjin and Hebei reached 230,000, an increase of 23.6%, accounting for 18.7% of the total domestic. Yangtze River Economic Zone covers provincial and municipal invention patents have reached 551,000, an increase of 22.0%, accounting for 44.9% of the total domestic. Patent innovation is a strong support for the implementation of national regional development strategy. Third, the status of China applicants filing foreign patent applications keeps stabilizing. China remained the “stepping out” strategy in the implementation process, the emergence of a number of focus on relying on intellectual property rights to participate in international competition of innovative enterprises, promote China PCT international patent applications rapid growth.
