Korean Intellectual Property Office has recently revised the examination guidelines. From January 2021, if the products or services specified applied for the trademark are related to software, the purpose of the products and services must be explicitly marked, otherwise it will not be registered.
For example, product names such as “computer software” and “smart phone application software” have widely meanings; they must clearly indicate their uses in the future, such as “video game software” and “car navigation system software”, etc.
In addition, it is necessary to judge whether the products and services related to software are similar. It will also take the uses of products and services as the benchmark for specific and individual examination.
